  1. Very well written. I like that it is very truthful in the fact that anyone can relate to this story. We have all felt what Tommy is going through and how he relates to his family. Overall, a great read

  2. The Getaway was a very well written story, particularly in terms of it’s perspective. I think the tragic, looming event hinted at throughout was made even more powerful through the narrator’s refusal to acknowledge it; a childish approach to escapism that made for a very interesting read.

  3. I enjoyed this issue, in particular “Food for the Gods”. Karen Cook’s attention to detail painted a vivid picture of Charlotte’s yard and her pain.

  4. I appreciated the relatable yet all at once fantastical message of “The Getaway.” It was interesting and fresh to see the routine apocalyptic story arc (which can be found in so many post-2000 disaster films and movies) paired with one of the real-life disasters of the 21st century, the increasing fixation of children on media and media devices. Great job!

  5. “A Getaway” was easily the best read in this issue. The story is familiar, yet with an original and relevant twist, making it enjoyable and thought-provoking. The author has a very bright future ahead of him.

  6. I truly enjoyed Ms. Cook’s story!! It was engaging right from the first sentence and kept my interest all thru. I only wish it had been longer. I was disappointed when it was finished. Not because it didn’t end well — it did; and not because it was badly written — it most certainly wasn’t; but because it was so good, I wanted to keep reading. So please, Ms. Cook, write some more stories for us — soon!
