We Want Editors

Update: August 17, 2018

We are no longer accepting editorial applications at this time!

If you have ever wanted to be a part of bringing unique and diverse literature to an audience of thousands, this is your shot. Check out the various positions we are looking to fill below. Please note that EVERYONE who works for Crack the Spine does so on an unpaid, volunteer basis. Click on the position you would like to apply for and you will be directed to our Submittable portal, where we are accepting all resumes, bios, and whatnot. PLEASE do not email us your resume or other application documents directly. We will not be able to respond to them.

All of our editors will be expected to read and evaluate submissions within their category. Editors are welcome to pursue this task at any rate they wish, providing that any deadlines (standard or special) specified by the Editor-in-Chief are respected and met.

  • Short Fiction Editor: Our short fiction editor should expect to read and evaluate 30-35 submissions per month. Given the dense nature of many of our short fiction submissions, we are considering splitting this position into two short fiction co-editors. Apply Here
  • Flash Fiction Editor: Our flash fiction editor will be expected to read and evaluate 30-35 submissions per month. Apply Here
  • Micro Fiction Editor: This is still a relatively new submission category for CTS, so the editor would currently only need to review approximately 10 very short submissions per month. However, given that we would like to see an increase in submissions to this category, any applicant with ideas or solutions that would facilitate that increase would be an excellent addition to the team. Apply Here
  • Creative Non-Fiction Editor: Our creative non-fiction (essays) editor should expect to read and evaluate 10-15 submissions per month. Apply Here
  • Poetry Editor: Our poetry editor should expect to read and evaluate 35-40 submissions per month. Given that poetry is our largest submissions category in terms of volume, we are considering splitting this position into two poetry co-editors. Apply Here
